By the 19 notices that give sale dates, half the products were on sale for 4 years or less; the longest for 12.5 years. Half the recalls came within 6 years of the first sale; the other half reached products that had been on sale longer.

What the recalls offered

A repair in 11 of the 14 notices that name a remedy, a refund in 2, a replacement in 1. Some notices offer more than one.

11 of the 19 notices list model numbers. They also name serial numbers in 14, date codes or manufacture dates in 3. A matching model number is a reason to open the notice, not the last word.

Where the notices say the numbers are: “on the front of the unit on the front edge of the base pan on a white sticker” (2 notices), “on a label behind the front cover of the unit”, and “on the control board plate found by lifting the unit's front cover”.
