How to check boats & marine

Boat identity
Manufacturer, model, model year and hull identification number (HIN).
Manufacturer code
The manufacturer identification code (MIC), where available.
Installed equipment
Component manufacturer, model and serial number.

1. Gather the boat’s records

Have the HIN, manufacturer, model and model year available. For a component, use its own identification label and paperwork.

2. Search Coast Guard recalls

The Coast Guard database offers searches by MIC, company or recall number, model and model year. Read each matching record for the affected products.

3. Confirm with the manufacturer

Ask the boat or equipment manufacturer whether your exact HIN or serial number is included and what corrective work is needed. A model match alone is not confirmation.

Boats & marine equipment recall questions

Can I enter a HIN on this website?

No. Use the Coast Guard’s official recall database to find campaigns, then contact the manufacturer with your HIN to establish whether your specific boat is included.

Should I check installed equipment separately?

Yes. Record the manufacturer and identifiers of the affected component, not just the boat’s model. Review the campaign details and confirm applicability with its manufacturer.

Does an empty list mean my boat has no recalls?

No. Imported records may be limited or unavailable. The official Coast Guard database and your boat or equipment manufacturer remain the next places to check.
