What buyers paid
The 30 notices that give a price range from $5 to $8,000. Half of them name a price of $662.50 or less.
How long they were on sale
By the 35 notices that give sale dates, half the products were on sale for 19 months or less; the longest for 8 years. Half the recalls came within 3 years of the first sale; the other half reached products that had been on sale longer.
What the recalls offered
A repair in 12 of the 17 notices that name a remedy, a refund in 5, a replacement in 2, a new label in 1. Some notices offer more than one.
Incidents reported
30 of the 36 notices that describe incidents report at least one; 1 reports injuries and 1 reports deaths. 6 said none had been reported when the recall was announced.
How the notices identify affected units
26 of the 42 notices list model numbers. They also name serial numbers in 24, date codes or manufacture dates in 8, UPC codes in 1. A matching model number is a reason to open the notice, not the last word.
Where the notices say the numbers are: “on the front of the unit on the front edge of the base pan on a white sticker” (2 notices), “inside the air conditioners”, and “on a label behind the front cover of the unit”.
Where they were made
United States (15), China (8), Mexico (5), India (2) and Malaysia (1), in the 30 notices that name a manufacturing country.
More or fewer than before
4 air conditioner notices in 2021–2025, the same as in 2016–2020. Across all CPSC notices on file, the count rose 16% over the same years.
