BTU window air conditioners
CPSC published a recall notice for BTU window air conditioners from BTU window on August 14, 2002. CPSC identifies this hazard: Salty sea spray can cause the electrical capacitor within these units to corrode, posing a possible fire hazard. The official remedy states: Consumers with one of these recalled air conditioners should call Carrier Guam, which will schedule a free inspection and repair visit. Alternatively, consumers may elect to purchase a brand new unit at half price, to replace the old unit.
