5 notices where the recalled products are lawn mowers.

The fuel tank valve can malfunction and cause the fuel tank to expand and gasoline liquid or vapors to be unexpectedly released, posing fire and burn hazards.

When the handlebar is released on the recalled lawnmowers, the motor could continue to run, which causes the blade to continue to spin. In addition, there is excessive heat build up in the wire coil inside the housing and also in the safety key.

These lawnmowers contain an electronic switch in their handlebar. In certain instances, this switch is not aligned properly, in which case the mower does not comply with the mandatory federal safety standard for lawnmowers under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. The safety standards require that lawn mowers contain a blade control system that includes a handlebar that is designed to cause the motor to stop in the event that the operator ceases to maintain a grip on the handlebar. In units containing the defective switch, when the handlebar is released, the motor continues to run, which causes the blade to continue to spin. When this occurs, the potential for personal injury or property damage exists.

Because these lawnmowers lack a safety guard, a consumer's foot could go under the plastic housing and be struck by the blade. These lawnmowers do not comply with the mandatory federal safety standard for lawnmowers under the Consumer Product Safety Act.

A wiring problem on the lawnmower's circuit board may cause some of the safety functions to become inoperable. The mower may continue to operate, after the Operator Presence Control Bar is released. The blade also may continue to spin for an extended period of time, after the mower has been shut off. Contact with a moving lawnmower blade can result in lacerations or serious injury to the hand or foot.
